How It Works

Step 1: HeadStart connects to a smartwatch and passively collects photoplethysmography (PPG) data during daily activity, rest, and sleep.

Step 2: Each user completes a short onboarding process about triggers, aura patterns, sleep, stress, weather sensitivity, and medication use. HeadStart builds an individualized physiological baseline rather than relying on population averages.

Step 3: Subtle changes in heart rate variability, blood flow patterns, and autonomic balance are analyzed using personalized machine-learning models trained on each user’s longitudinal data.

Step 4: When patterns resemble a user’s historical pre-migraine signals, HeadStart sends a probability-based alert indicating that a migraine may be developing and the optimal treatment window may be approaching.
